February 14, 2011

To Greenwich Woods Health Care and Rehabilitation Center,

I am writing to let you know of the outstanding attention my family received while my husband, James, was a resident in your facility.  Jim was admitted to the Willows Unit on January 6, 2010.  He was admitted due to a hip fracture and we expected him to be with you for a short time.  He was suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and was unable to comprehend the need for physical therapy.  Your staff worked tirelessly, trying to come up with new ways to keep him exercising.  Ultimately, he could not perform the tasks necessary for his discharge, and he was moved to the Hawthorne Unit.

On Hawthorne, he found a new “family” of caregivers.  The staff was respectful, king and well prepared to care for Jim in every way.  In the 13 months that Jim was a resident, he never had a bed sore, or a cold or any other sign of neglect or mistreatment.  The staff became my good friends as well, keeping me informed of any new situation. . . I would like to highlight Lori, the LPN, who kept her sense of humor when times were tough.  She came up with great ideas on how to keep Jim safe.  Jackie, our dear aide, had a positive attitude, never shirked away from unpleasant tasks.  She clearly cared for my husband as a person, not just an assignment.  She and Lori are great treasures.  Others who were so helpful to us were Maxine, Josette, Rosetta, Lorna.  Melinda and Stacy were so helpful in sorting through all the medication changes.  I would also like to add that Christine in Admissions and Tara, in Social Services were well informed and helped me through the Medicaid application process, which was formidable.

My husband passed away on February 8, 2011.  Our family was able to stay with him as long as we needed.  The staff was supportive, gracious and calm.  There were plenty of hugs and some tears.  My family has been blessed by the loving care provided by Greenwich Woods, and I will have no difficulty recommending this facility to anyone.
